The dangers of processed foods By Bunmi George

In today’s fast pace world, more and more people are consuming processed foods worldwide without adequate knowledge on its disadvantages. Statistics shows that there is a reduction in the consumption of whole organic foods. Scientific data has shown links between processed foods and health problems such as Obesity, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Diabetes to name a few.

Ekiti State Health workers withdraw from Current NLC strike

The Joint Health Sector Union in Ekiti State has withdrawn from the strike action embarked upon by the state's Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) chapter in protest of the five months outstanding salary arrears owed them by the government. The health unions announced its withdrawal from the strike on Friday, May 27, in a letter  addressed to the Chief Medical Director of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.

Manchester United Officially Announce Jose Mourinho as Head Coach

Former Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho is now Manchester United's new manager. It was announced today May 26th that Mourinho will take over from sacked Louis van Gaal, after three days of talks.

United Airlines Cancels Houston-to-Nigeria Route

United Airlines will stop flying to Nigeria next month, ending the carrier’s only route to Africa because of weakness in the energy sector and difficulty in collecting money from tickets sold in that country.
The daily route from Houston to Lagos had underachieved for years but was kept alive because of its importance to Texas-based customers, United Continental Holdings Inc. said in a note to employees Wednesday. The last flight will be June 30, after which Delta Air Lines Inc. will be the only major U.S. carrier flying to Africa.

Sharia bill passes second reading without debate

The House of Representatives on Thursday said it did not conduct debate on the controversial Sharia bill as reported. In a statement by Hon. Jonathan Gaza Gbefwi, the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Media and Publicity‎, he clarified that “The Bill came up on the floor and was automatically referred to the adhoc committee on constitution review. There was no debate on it either for or against because the House is a democratic representative chamber of the Nigerian people. Even if five people only have an issue with any section of the constitution, the House will give it a listening ear.

Handless 7-year-old girl "Anaya Ellick" wins US handwriting contest

A seven-year-old pupil born without hands has won a United States national handwriting competition. According to the reports, Anaya Ellick from Chesapeake, Virginia, does not use prosthetics. To write, she stands to get the proper angle, holding a pencil between her arms.
