Prof. Yemi Osinbajo(SAN) reportedly cancels signing of document.. The Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly, Senator Ita Enang, said consultations are still being held on the budget
There is no date fixed for the signing of the 2017 budget yet, the Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly, Senator Ita Enang, has said.
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo is expected to assent the document.
Enang said consultations are still being held on the budget.
"Further to several enquiries regarding action on the 2017 Appropriation Bill by the Executive, be please informed that Assent to same is not yet scheduled as consultations and engagements are ongoing," he told Punch.
It had earlier been reported that Osinbajo would sign the 2017 appropriation bill into law on Thursday, June 1.
The reports quoted Enang as officially informing the leadership of the National Assembly on Wednesday that the budget would be signed on Thursday.
However, The Cable reports that the Presidency cancelled the budget signing on Wednesday evening for undisclosed reason.
Initially, there was a controversy about who would sign the budget, but Osinbajo's spokesman, Laolu Akande, has since made it clear that the Acting President would assent the document "when the time comes, everything is set, & he (Osinbajo) is satisfied."
The budget was passed by the National Assembly on May 11, and delivered to Osinbajo on May 19.
