High-Flying Ghana ‘Cocaine Lady’ Sentenced To 8 Years By London Court

Nayele Ametefe, aka Ruby Adu Gyamfi,32.. The Ghanaian woman in the thick of the 12.5kg cocaine saga that rocked the nation a few months ago has been sentenced to an imprisonment term of eight years and eight months by a British court according to GhanaWeb is believed to have used an exclusive lounge of Kotoka International Airport, in Accra, to conceal approximately 13kg of the Class A drug worth just £2 million.

The VIP area is reserved for high-profile government figures. It caused a national scandal in Ghana country and outcry from critics forced the Ghanaian President, John Mahama, to deny he had any links to the defendant.

She was arrested on November 9, 2014. A judge at Isleworth Crown Court sentenced her to 8 years and 8 months imprisonment. Ametefe was allegedly helped by 3 security and foreign affairs officials who are being tried in Ghana.
Nayele Ametefe was rumored to have been attempting to change her plea to 'not guilty' causing many to suggest the move could result in incriminating other Ghanaians, previously not on trial. However, Ametefe's sentencing today appear to have put an end to that speculation. Miss Ametefe who holds dual citizenship of Ghana and Austria is expected to relocate to Austria after completing her prison term in the UK.
