Newspapers Review: 10 Things You Need To Know In Nigeria Today.

1. President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday in Abuja expressed great concern over complaints and agitations by workers across different states over unpaid salaries and allowances,he said he wonders how the state Governors sleep not paying thier workers salaries, in spite of interventions by the Federal Government. The President, however, said that the plight of workers in the states need urgent attention as many could barely survive.


2.Some yet-to-be identified gunmen, on Monday shot dead a serving corps member, Ekene Uwaoma. The incident happened around 8.30pm at Ama-wire Junction, in Owerri, Imo State. The corps member and his friend, identified simply as MacDonald, were returning to their residence after traveling to the state to see his mother when he was shot.

3. The Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), has denied report that it has shut down Intels, a company belonging to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar. FIRS Director of Communication, Wahab Gbadamosi told journalists that report circulating round some media that Intels was sealed-off is not true. According to him, Intels was only served with a notice to comply with its tax obligations.
 

4. The Police Command in Enugu says a cleric, Bishop Ginika Obi, recently arrested over his alleged advance fee fraud involving over N500m, has been remanded in Enugu Maximum Prison. The spokesman of the command, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, in a statement on Tuesday said the bishop, whose church/office is at Km 111, Enugu-Port Harcourt highway, Enugu, had been alleged to have tricked many people to pay huge amounts of money to him.

5. Former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col. Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (rtd) has pleaded with the Federal High Court in Abuja to adjourn indefinitely his trial in the charges of unlawful possession of firearms and money laundering brought against him since 2015 by the Federal government. In the motion brought pursuant to section 305(1a) and 492 (3) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act and section 36 of the 1999 constitution, the ex-NSA prayed for an order of the court to adjourn trial or further trial in the charges against him pending determination of his appeal at the Court of Appeal.


6. Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, will today depart for Istanbul, in Turkey, to participate in the ninth Summit of the Developing 8 (D-8) scheduled for Friday. The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina disclosed this in a statement, He said the President would be accompanied on the trip by ministers, top government officials, including the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Hameed Ali.
 

7. The Nigerian Navy has commenced recruitment of “suitably qualified” graduates. Suleman Dahun, Navy’s Acting Director of Information, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. Dahun advised interested persons to visit www.joinnigeriannavy.com to apply.
He said applicants must be Nigerians by birth, should possess a minimum of second class upper division for first degree holders and upper credit for HND holders.
 

8. One of the sureties for Nnamdi Kanu and senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has applied to be discharged as surety to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Abaribe filed the application in court on Tuesday as he is unable to reach Kanu. The judge has, however, given him more time to provide Kanu in court.


9. Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to make the mistake of choosing wrong people as National Working Committee (NWC) members at the December convention. Jonathan, while speaking when he received an aspirant for the party’s national chairmanship position, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, in his residence in Abuja on Tuesday said the positions were delicate ones.

10. A former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has vowed never to return to the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP. He said he would rather remain a statesman, working for the interest of the nation. He made his position known to journalists after a meeting with the National Caretaker Chairman of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi which behind closed doors.
