1.Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources, Senator Omotayo Alasoadura has said that the nation’s oil and gas sector can be free controversies currently rocking the sector if President Muhammad Buhari steps down as the Minister of Petroleum.
The Senator,also recommends that Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, and the Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Maikanti Baru should be suspended for a thorough investigation into the allegations.
2. The death has been announced of former Chief of Army Staff of the Nigeria Army, Lt. Gen. Victor Malu.
Malu, who served under Olusegun Obasanjo died in an undisclosed hospital in Cairo, Egypt in the early hours of Monday.
3. Gunmen suspected to be cultists, in what seemed like a door-to-door attack, have killed 15 people in Agip/Mgboshimini area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.
Reports said that those killed by the gunmen include both indigenes and non-indigenes, a nursing mother, a husband and his wife among others.
4. The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Maikanti Baru, on Monday opened up the allegation by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu over the Commission’s non-adherence to due process in award of contracts.
Baru insisted that the laws of the Commission “do not require a review or discussion with the Minister of State or the NNPC Board on contractual matters.”
5. The Police Service Commission (PSC) says it has no power to discipline the Inspector-General of Police.
A statement by Mr Ikechukwu Ani, Media, Press and Public Relations officer of PSC, said that the commission would not compromise its constitutional mandate to appoint, promote and discipline Officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Commission also wishes to state that its powers to do this does not cover the office of the Inspector General of Police.
“The Powers of the Commission are stated in paragraph 30, Part 1 of the third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution,” he said
6. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Monday said President Muhammadu Buhari and the five governors of the south eastern states were working hard to criminalize it despite its non-violent stand.
Emma Powerful, media and publicity secretary of the group, said the Buhari administration and the five governors were worried that despite the brazen provocation and attack against its leader and members, the group had remained non-violent.
7. Jigawa State Governor, Badaru Abubakar has refuted media reports of an impeachment plot against him.
The governor, who maintained that the relationship between the state’s executive and the legislature was cordial, added that there was no misunderstanding between him and the lawmakers whatsoever.
8. Nigerian Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo has denied nursing the ambition to take over from his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
Osinbajo said he hadn’t thought about it, saying, “None of that is on the cards.”
9. Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, has called for the probe of the management of Aso Rock clinic.
She made the call at a stakeholders meeting on productivity, Maternal, Nutrition, Child Advocacy and Health and Nutrition at the State House in Abuja.
10. No fewer than three members of the National Youths Service Corps, serving in the Assakio area of the Lafia East Development Area, Nasarawa State, have been confirmed dead.
While two of the deceased – Oguntola Wasiu-Babatunde and Danjuma Jamil-Salihu – drowned in a swimming pool, their female counterpart, Memuna Ahmad-Yarwa, died from complications during a child birth.
