1. Thousands gathered in Harare on Saturday to demand President Robert Mugabe’s resignation.Al-Jazeera quoted the crowd as saying: “Chiwenga, lead the war to remove Mugabe”, referring to General Constantino Chiwenga, who had warned of military intervention before the takeover.
Protesters attempted to reach State House, but presidential guards blocked access.
A general later appealed to the crowds to go home and not to proceed “because we will finish the job”.
2. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that it will remain vigilant in collation of results until the announcement of the final result and winner of the Anambra governorship election.
“Generally the election has been peaceful and we are very happy. The turnout look to me better than the last two previous governorship elections,”
3. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has warned politicians against playing do or die politics.
Rather, the Ex-president urged politicians to thread with caution as Nigeria prepared for 2019 general election.
“If you cannot be the chief servant you can be the assistant chief servant. This is because the chief servant cannot do it on his own. He has to work with others.
“Politics should not be about life or death. Politicians should learn how to thread with caution as 2019 elections draw closer,” the ex-president warned.
4. Some suspected criminals in Adamawa State were caught in Police web after a raid of the notorious forest known as ‘Sambisa Forest’.
The operation which was conducted in the night saw the arrest of some criminals including two women. The suspects were arrested for committing various criminal offences including murder. Six armed robbery suspects allegedly terrorising people in Maiha Local Government Area of the state were also arrested.
5. Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, told the Igbos that the issue of marginalization they are crying of now would not have been if they had voted wisely in 2015 and re-elected Minister of Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige into the Senate. According to Adesina, Ngige would by now have been in the Senate president and not Bukola Saraki.
“To make matters worse, the East had refused to re-elect its own son, Dr Chris Ngige, as senator. If Ngige had been given a mandate, he would have effortlessly emerged Senate President, and see what the region would have benefitted.
6. Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State is on the verge of a re-election as vote collation in the Anambra governorship election which held on Saturday, commences.
Obiano's All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) is running away with the majority of votes in Aguata, Awka South, Njikoka, Ekwusigo, Ogbaru and Anambra East.
The election was peaceful amid voter apathy which stemmed from secessionist IPOB's threat to disrupt the vote and end lives of voters.
Most of the candidates have each expressed hopes of winning as well.
7. The two capital clubs cancelled each other out in the derby at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday night. A dour draw in the derby between Atletico and Real Madrid means that both teams are 10 points behind Barcelona in La Liga. Even at this early stage, it seems an almost insurmountable deficit.
Earlier on Saturday, Barca beat Leganes 3-0 to move provisionally 11 clear of the two capital clubs. Realistically, both needed to win in order to keep their title hopes alive. But neither could find a way a score in their first-ever meeting at the Wanda Metropolitano.
8. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Party (APC) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) of electoral malpractice during the Anambra Governorship Election.
The election which took place on November 18, across 21 local government areas, was said to have experienced relative peace despite threats by some groups.
The PDP, however, has claimed that an APGA agent was seen giving an INEC official money at Nnewi Ichi ward, Polling Unit.
9. Nigeria’s Women U-20 national football team, Falconets, have progressed to the final round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers after beating Morocco on 6-2 on aggregate.
Goals from Gift Monday, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Charity Rueben gave the Falconets a 5-1 victory on Saturday in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
10. At least three people have been confirmed dead, while many others sustained varying degrees of injuries as security men attached to ex-Governor of Kwara State, Senator Shaaba Lafiagi shot protesting youths.
The angry youths in return, burnt down part of the Senator’s residence in Lafiagi, protesting killing of their community members.
The Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kwara State, Henry Bilesanmi , confirmed the death of three people to reporters.
