Newspaper Review: 10 Things You Need To Know Today

Good day! Happy Weekend, here is today's summary from Nigerian Newspapers.
 
1. The Nigerian Army on Saturday said its troops recorded more successes in the ongoing clearance operation to route out remnants of the terrorists in Sambisa Forest.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, said this in a statement issued in Maiduguri.
Kukasheka confirmed the killing of seven Boko Haram insurgents and destruction of 23 assorted vehicles in the operations.


2. Chairmen of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 6 geopolitical zones of the country have moved against the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun.
The zonal Chairmen cited acts of indiscretion by the leadership, which, according to them, could prevent APC from achieving its set goals and subject it to public ridicule.

The six zonal Chairmen of the party are accusing Oyegun of lacking in transparency and accountability and generally mismanaging the affairs of the party.


3. Niger Delta ex-Agitators Forum, has warned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, against further persecution of former First Lady, Patience Jonathan.
The former militants challenged the anti-graft agency to leave to former First Lady alone.
River State, President of the body, Prince Hornby, described the persecution of Mrs. Jonathan as a ploy to ridicule the people of the oil-rich region.
Horny warned that ex-militants would react in a manner that won’t be in the interest of the nation if the alleged persecution of Mrs Jonathan continues.

4. Manchester United are through to last 16 of the FA Cup, following a 4-0 victory over League Two outfit, Yeovil, at Huish Park.
New signing, Alexis Sanchez made his debut and provided a second-half assist for Ander Herrera, as Jose Mourinho’s men sealed a comfortable win.
United has now qualified for Monday’s fifth-round draw.

5. President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law, eight bills which include an immunity bill on lawmakers on Friday, January 26, 2018.
The laws earlier passed by the National Assembly was signed into law by the President in a brief signing ceremony that held inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

6. Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, yesterday said President Muhammadu Buhari administration should not only conducts a credible, free and fair election in 2019, but to also accept the outcome of the election should he and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), fail to win the presidential contest.

7. The Lagos State Government has confirmed the death of Mr. Deji Tinubu, the Special Adviser on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives.
The Government in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan expressed “shock and disbelief’ over the sudden death of Mr. Tinubu and has reached out to his immediate family to commiserate on this huge loss to the family and the citizens of Lagos State.

8. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday arraigned one Muhammed Momoh before Justice U. P. Kekemeke of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Apo, on one charge of conspiracy and obtaining by false pretences.
Momoh was arrested on December 22, 2017 by operatives of the EFCC for attempting to defraud the Governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura, and his wife, Mairo.
The EFCC said the suspect requested for N8m but was offered N6m.

9. A new price is set to hit toll gate users as the Lekki Concession Company Limited has announced that it will increase the toll tariffs being charged at the Admiralty Circle Toll Plaza on the Lekki-Epe Expressway and the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge Toll Plaza with effect from Thursday, February 1, 2018.

The LCC in a statement said, 'the toll fare increase is as a result of current economic and business realities that have adversely increased the cost of operations and maintenance of the company’s loan obligations'

10. President Buhari who re-rocked his famous brown winter Jacket has arrived Addis Ababa ahead of his participation at the 30th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Ethiopia.
