1. Hoodlums have set the Ughelli office of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission ablaze moments before the commencement of the local government election in the State.
The incident it was gathered occurred in the early hours of Saturday. The building housing sensitive materials for the exercise was razed by arms’ wielding youths. The youths were said to have defied  security operatives.


2.No fewer than six Fulani herdsmen were yesterday arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Makurdi for their alleged involvement in the killing of 19 farmers in Akor village of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The accused persons who were charged with criminal conspiracy, mischief, open grazing, causing grievous harm with dangerous weapons and culpable homicide included, Ibrahim Saleh, Jubrin Adamu, Magaji Yau, Ibrahim Abubakar, Sabiu Yau and Hoseni Bala.

3. The Borno Government on Friday announced the extension of curfew in Maiduguri for another seven days from 8:00 p.m. to 6: 00 a.m.

The government on Monday rescheduled the curfew hitherto observed between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. to run between Jan. 2 and 6.

4. Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has debunked an allegation that he is the chief financier of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).
Paul Ibe, Atiku’s spokesman, in a statement on Friday, described the allegation against Abubakar, who holds Tiv traditional title of Zege Mule U Tiv, as sad and false.

5. The Federal Government, yesterday, insisted that there was no plan to hike the price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, above N145 per litre, stating that it is currently drawing up stiff sanctions to be meted out to marketers that were found selling above the approved price range.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, appealed for an end to politicization of the fuel crisis and also speculation on petrol prices.

6. A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Femi Fani-Kayode, has lamented the long absence of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, from the public scene.
He said Nigerians needed the former Radio Biafra boss more than ever.

7. The health of wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, has improved, report says.
Aisha, who had been on admission for high blood pressure at Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja following her son’s involvement in a bike accident is back on her feet.

8. The Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has reacted to the incessant killings and clashes between herdsmen and their host communities in Benue and other parts of the country.
The ACF pleaded with parties involved in the crises to sheath their swords and bring forward their grievances in the interest of peace and development of the states and the region.

9. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained a contractor with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Prof. Adesanya Adelekan, in connection with alleged N20billion textbooks and science equipment fraud.
The anti graft agency has also restricted the movement of a former Executive Secretary of the UBEC, Mr.Suleiman Dikko, to the country, pending the conclusion of the ongoing probe.

10.The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has raised another alarm over what it said are the risks posed to the unity of the country by activities of armed Fulani herdsmen, urging the federal government to exercise necessary power that will clampdown on the killer herdsmen and their promoters.
To this end, CAN declared January 7, as a day of nationwide prayers for victory over the activities of armed Fulani herdsmen.
