1. The Brigade Commander, 23rd Amour Brigade Yola, Brig. Gen. Bello Mohammed, has declared that the Nigerian Army will no longer condone killings under any guise.
He expressed sadness that seven policemen and two soldiers lost their lives within the past two months as a result of Numan sectarian crisis involving herdsmen and farmers.
2. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ondo State Command, has arrested an Islamic cleric, Oladele Ayuba, for allegedly defrauding a follower of N4m.
He said, “He (Ayuba) has defrauded many of the people who approached him for prayers of various amounts ranging from N300,000 to N36m. But he was arrested following a complaint by one of his victims, Tajudeen Ekundayo, whom he allegedly duped of N4.3m.
3. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Edgal Imohimi, appeals to the good people of Lagos state to desist from offering or giving alcoholic drinks to policemen in Lagos state command.
The appeal became necessary in view of the misconduct of some policemen after consumption of all kinds free alcoholic beverages given to them by friends, party makers or by those who come to police station for one reason or the other.
4. Two persons, including a policeman have been killed by suspected herdsmen in the troubled Guma local government area of Benue State.
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom confirmed this when he received in audience former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso who paid him a condolence visit.
5. A kidnap suspect, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, has filed a fresh suit against the police, seeking the release of 25 Mack trucks, which he claimed were seized from him.
His lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, claimed in the suit that the trucks were seized on June 15, 2017 without a court order, saying the seizure was a violation of Evans’ right.
6. The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday rejected an application filed by a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Olisa Metuh for an adjournment of his case as a result of ill health.
The presiding judge, Justice Okon Abang, said the medical report was fraudulently smuggled into the court and did not give any reasonable explanations as to the nature of his illness.
7. President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered security agencies to tackle the propagation of hate speech on social media.
Buhari gave the order during a meeting with heads of the security agencies at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
8. The Senate has asked the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to end the lingering scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) within seven days.
This was part of the resolutions made by the upper chamber of the National Assembly at the plenary on Thursday.
9. An air mishap was averted on Thursday as an aircraft operated by Nestoil lost its landing gear and two tyres while landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
It was learnt that the aircraft, which had nine persons on board at the time of the incident, skidded off the runway as two of its back tyres pulled off when it touched down at the NAIA.
10. The Nigeria Football Federation has named top Swedish football coach, Thomas Dennerby, as the head coach of the Nigeria national women’s team, Super Falcons.
The federation announced Thursday that the contract allows Dennerby to come into the job with an assistant, Jorgen Petersson, who is a highly experienced Swedish coach nominated by Dennerby.
