Robbers on Thursday, on Akure-Ondo road attacked a bullion van belonging to one of the first generation banks in the country. The incident happened at Elemoso village between the state capital and Ondo town in Ondo East Local Government Area of the state, when the robbers attacked the bullion van and escaped with undisclosed amount of money.
The incident which occurred around 4:50pm left the bullion van and the escorts vehicle conveying the policemen riddled with bullets while the robbers carted away cash belonging to the first generation bank.
It was learnt that the robbers that laid siege for the bullion van, caught the police escort of the van unawares and riddled the vehicles with bullets.
Eyewitness account stated that the operation lasted for just about seven minutes, adding that the agrarian community was turned into a ghost town during the time the operation lasted as no member of the community could withstand the superior ammunition of the dare devil men.
He said “the speed breaker erected on the highway helped the armed men. They overtook the vans and opened fire on the policemen before they could realise what was going on. The men are better equipped because they operated with confidence.”
However a middle age man, simply identified as Pastor Ajah who was coming from Ondo town was shot during the attack.
However, the State Commissioner of Police, Isaac Eke, while speaking on the incident said his men were on the trail on the robbers.
Eke, who described the attack as shocking said his men have commenced investigation on the attack, saying the culprit would soon be exposed.
