Champions League: Maribor hold Chelsea, Barcelona defeat Ajax, Bayern qualify

It was yet another unforgettable Wednesday night for English clubs, as Manchester City were beaten 2-1 at the Etihad by CSKA Moscow.

Moussa Doumbia opened scoring as early as the second minute of the game, before Yaya Toure levelled with a sublime free-kick. Doumbia broke free on the left, to finish past Joe Hart expertly, as the Russian club took command of the tie at the interval.
City failed to get back into the game and finished the game with 9 men, as Toure and Fernandinho were dismissed in the second half. Manuel Pellegrini’s men are now bottom of their group.

Eden Hazard wasted the chance to give a below par Chelsea side all three points, as his weak spot-kick was saved, to ensure the Blues drew 1-1 with Maribor.

Bayern Munich qualified for the next round of the Champions League with two games to spare, after they defeated Roma 2-0, thanks to goals from Franck Ribery and Mario Gotze.

PSG beat APOEL 1-0 in Paris, Shakhtar Donestk crushed BATE 5-0, Schalke 04 suffered a 4-2 loss against Sporting Lisbon, while FC Porto saw off Athletic Bilbao 2-0.
